Seoul is an essential stop for discovering South Korea. Located on the banks of the Han River, the capital and largest city in the country, is home to numerous monuments and cultural sites, three of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This includes the Changdeokgung Palace and its secret garden, the Jongmyo Shrine, as well as royal tombs dating from the Joseon dynasty. Seoul is also one of the birthplaces of K-pop, which developed there before gaining international recognition.
