Visa-Exempt Entry
French citizens and nationals of European Union member states are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 90 days.
Canadians enjoy visa exemption for stays of up to 180 days. In total, more than 107 countries benefit from visa exemption to visit this country. South Korean authorities require only the presentation of a valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your departure date. However, in certain cases and for unclear reasons, tourists may be required to present their return airline ticket.
Tourist Visa
The tourist visa is intended for nationals of countries without visa exemption access. It is issued as a single-entry pass. Note that a multiple-entry visa is also available, ideal for those making frequent trips to South Korea for work or other purposes. The embassy issues the visa within 5 business days, with fees amounting to 36 euros.
Your tourist visa application must include the following documents:
- A completed and signed application form containing your address and phone number in South Korea,
- Your original passport valid for at least 6 months at the time of application submission,
- An identity photograph,
- Documentation confirming your accommodation reservation during your stay in the country,
- An extract from your criminal record,
- And any other documents relevant to the type of visa being requested.
Regarding the identity photograph, you should be aware that local authorities have recently established new standards. The photograph must be in color with a plain background. On paper, it should be borderless and measure 35 mm in width and 45 mm in height. In the photograph, your face must be facing the camera directly, and you must not wear a hat or head covering, except for medical or religious reasons.
E-visa services are not yet available in South Korea. However, local authorities have announced that this electronic system will be implemented soon, making it possible to receive travel authorization by email.
